essentials: diaper bag edition
Before Avvie was born, I took great delight in carefully curating Mike's and my diaper bags. I needed two of everything, so that each bag would be identical. Heaven forbid the wrong kind of diaper cream touched her delicate baby bottom.
Now, of course, it's a little more catch-as-catch-can, but I still have my favorite products that I like to keep stocked. See my list below:
Diaper bag: I have two, actually, but my heavy-duty one is the Anti-Diaper Bag from Hatch. It comes with the requisite mat, but it also has three other pouches (labeled this, that, and the other) to help you organize all of your baby stuff. I love the decorative tassel on the outside, which Mike had embossed with my initials (aw).
Diapers: We use Pampers Swaddlers and I keep about four in the bag.
Diaper cream: Aquaphor Baby Healing Ointment never gives her a diaper rash.
Diaper wipes: The Honest Company travel packs are great. I get them in my bi-monthly bundle.
Hand sanitizer: I'm a big believer in germs, so I don't use this often, but I keep an Honest Company one in there just in case.
Travel spoon: I never knew I could be so enthused about a spoon, but this OXO travel spoon is the SHIT. It has its own carrying case!
Fruit pouch and snacks: While Avvie now generally nibbles off of my plate if we're out to a meal, I'll often bring along one of these Happy Baby pouches just in case something I order isn't baby friendly. I also like to keep a pack of Baby Mum Mums in the bag since she LOVES to hold the cracker herself and gnaw on it.
Bib: I love the Aden + Anais burpy bibs as a combo burp cloth/bib, but I also bring waterproof bibs now that she's eating solids.
Bottle: The one downside to the Hatch bag is that there's no bottle pocket. So, most of the time I bring a travel cap and put my Dr. Brown's bottle together once we're sitting down somewhere. Yes, there are more parts than other brands, but we've never had a problem with gas and I think that's partially because of these bottles.
Toys: The Bright Start links have been one of Avvie's favorite toys since she learned how to grasp things and they're still a perennial winner. Sometimes I'll also pack the Noggin Stik. Now that she's seven months, she's less inclined to hang out at a restaurant for two hours while Mike and I leisurely twirl our spaghetti, so toys and snacks are essential for when she starts to get fussy. And if that doesn't work, there's always red wine in the bottle. Kidding.
Extra outfit: Blowouts happen, often at the most inopportune times. I always keep a onesie stashed at the bottom of my bag. And no, it's not always a Ralph Lauren, ha.
