The first piece of advice I got after we found out we were having a girl was to not buy her any clothes ahead of time. "WHAT." I said (casually, I'm sure).
But, I have to admit, it is very sound wisdom. People see something small and pink and there is just a biological urge to buy it and thrust it upon the nearest tiny human with two X chromosomes. The advice, you see, is not that your baby girl WON'T receive clothes, it's that if you buy her stuff on top of what everyone else gets her, only North West will have a bigger closet. Look, I certainly have been guilty of splurging on cute baby gifts for friends and I definitely don't mind that baby Lewin is already amassing quite the stylish wardrobe (she already has a bathing suit, a track suit and baby Pumas, in case you're wondering).
So, I have been trying (entirely unsuccessfully) to limit our pre-baby purchases. Hampering this attempted circumspection is my newest obsession: Monica + Andy, a baby line out of Chicago that's run by Monica Royer, who happens to be the sister of Bonobos CEO Andy Dunn. Mike LOVES Bonobos for their fit and quality, so it should be no surprise that everything M+A is also made out out top notch cotton/muslin and is super cute to boot.
While they don't have a brick and mortar (yet) in New York, they are offering one of the coolest delivery services I've seen in a while. Through their We Deliver When You Deliver program, you can order one of their Cuddle Boxes (pictured above) and have it sent to someone's apartment, hospital, wherever on the SAME DAY. Especially for women who go into early labor, this seems like kind of a life saver. Also, that hat! You can choose from four different sizes of boxes, but items range from newborn-sized onesies to blankets and hats.
And apart from the newborn pieces, their whole line is pretty freaking adorable. I wish some of it came in my size.
